
Mabel Sanchez Barrioluengo, Senior Lecturer in Science Policy and Innovation -AMBS
She is also Deputy Director of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and theme lead on Digital Economy within the Digital Futures platform of the University of Manchester. Previously she worked as Research Fellow at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in the area of Human Capital and Employment. She has a degree in Statistics and holds a PhD from the Technical University of Valencia and INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) in Spain with a particular focus on the economics of higher education.
Her main research interests include the relationship between digital technologies, skills, employment and productivity, the involvement of universities in economic development and university-society collaborations. Mabel has been recently involved in two projects about the adoption of advanced digital technologies in Greater Manchester and the UK. In addition, she led a commissioned report for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology analysing barriers and enablers for the adoption of 3D printing by SMEs in Greater Manchester.
Beyond the UK, Mabel has been involved in the preparation of policy reports for the European Commission around topics like social inclusion policies in higher education, learning mobility and student mobility, universities and their innovation capacity and more recently “Micro-credentials in Higher Education for the twin transition”.
Her research has been published in several international journals like Research Policy, Scientometrics, Science and Public Policy, Regional Studies, etc.
