Sister is Manchester’s new innovation district. A £1.7bn investment into the city, its setting – the former University of Manchester North Campus and UMIST site – is steeped in science and engineering history. Home to the UK’s most exciting new ideas and disruptive technologies, Sister is a worldclass innovation platform in the heart of one of the most exciting global cities. It stands as the city’s symbol of a new era of discovery that promises progress against humanity’s greatest challenges.

At Sister, you’ll find visionary start-ups next to industry-leading multinationals. University spin-outs next to social enterprises. Creative studios next to R&D facilities. New homes next to calming green spaces and bustling community hubs.

The Renold Building is the first of Sister’s buildings to open, in Autumn 2024. Reactivated as an innovation hub, it will act as the keystone of the Sister ecosystem and a new home for Manchester’s most promising entrepreneurs, start-ups and spin-outs.

Celebrating its history as an educational hub, Renold will be an inclusive, purpose-driven community, hosting the UK's next wave of science and technology innovators.
Continue the conversation after Pro Manchester’s Tech Trailblazers event at Venture Café Manchester’s Thursday Gathering: Liveable Cities: Critiquing the Urban Renaissance. Bringing together voices from across innovation, tech, urbanism and the built environment, the evening will explore what makes cities truly liveable  - alongside the high-energy networking and cross-sector connections that Thursday Gatherings are known for.

Open Kitchen is a social enterprise sustainable and ethical catering company. We’re a Real Living Wage Employer, a local independent business, and really committed to doing the right thing.
Our model is rather unique. Everything we buy supports the sustainable food future that we want to see – local, seasonal, sustainably produced and ethically sourced. We also work with a huge range of food businesses to intercept beautiful food that will otherwise go to waste (lowering Greater Manchester’s carbon footprint). Our team of experienced chefs use this ever changing mix to create fresh, bespoke, delicious menus every single day.

We have an events catering service, delivering catering and refreshments for meetings, workshops, training events, etc. We offer a range of talks, workshops, and lunch & learn events around food waste, our sustainable food future, links and false links between food waste and food poverty, and much more. And (just in case that’s not enough  ) we also offer team building activities including sustainable wine tasting evenings, waste food reducing cooking demos and classes, and learning to make pickles and kimchi.

All of our profits, and some grant funding, support our community work, providing grocery parcels, nutritious meals and cookery lessons to people experiencing food poverty.
